BRING ME SUNSHINE - and Lots of it Please!!

First of all, I would like to thank everybody who has been kind enough to leave a comment for me this weekI love to hear from you and it makes me very happy. X

Yes I think we could all do with some Eric and Ernie cheerfulness right now.  I am really trying not to keep moaning about the weather, but it seems to affect so many other areas of our normal daily life!

For example, at the beginning of the week, poor hubby was walking around, scratching his head (sigh, sigh, moan, scratch) and constantly looking out into the garden, until I eventually asked him what was wrong.  He invited me up the garden to the greenhouse and showed me all the plants that he has been growingThe problem became clearer when I saw just how much things had actually grown!  When any teeny, tiny little bit of sunshine appears, the greenhouse is actually lovely and warm (I found this out a while ago, when DH would keep making excuses to disappear into the greenhouse to find something to do in the lovely warm environment, and I would take him a cup of tea)The garden on the other hand, has been mainly wet, cold and windswept.  Hmmm maybe it would be better to live in the greenhouse as it is usually warmer than the house!

The problem it seemed, was that the plants were quickly outgrowing their pots and they probably would not survive much longer in such a small space.  But would they survive outside in a cold garden?  Would they go into shock? Could we have a night-time frost this late in the year, even though we live by the sea?

In the end, we both decided that there was nothing else that could be done.  They had to go out into the garden.  DH wanted to utilise greenhouse space for the tomatoes and cucumbersSo on Tuesday,  the one day of this week that it stayed dry, the wind  died down a little and the sun peeped out from behind the clouds (briefly) DH planted his plants.  So now we are keeping our fingers crossed.  But typically as predicted, the weather has not improved and has actually got worse.

In my last  blog post I mentioned my purchase of yarn from baa ram ewe on the way to Harrogate.  I have been drooling (yes literally) over some of the blankets that I have seen on my travels through blogland recently.  In particular, the very talented Matt's gorgeous blanket  seen here I just love all the different squares of colour edged with white.  I think it looks so sophisticated, and it is exactly what we need to brighten up our living room.

On the way home from Harrogate, all I could think about was that bag of scrummy yarn in the back of th carWhen we arrived home, and before DH could even get the kettle on, I had hook in hand ready to try out the new yarn and colour combinations.  Now at this point I have to say that although I have purchased some new yarn, I will also be using some yarn from my stashThe stash yarn is Rowan Cashsoft DK and it goes beautifully with the King Cole Merino Blend DK.  Also I have to tell you that DH was not impressed with me when he read my last blog post about needing more cream wool, as I am supposed to be decreasing stash mountain (Oops!), but I have assured him that there is a method in my madness (more wool + stash wool = less wool in the long run) and we will have another beautiful family heirloom.

Have fun until next time X

    1. Hi Debbie, Oh I am so jealous(oops.. I mean happy)that you have had some sunshine. Do you think you could email some to me? It sounds like you had a perfect day to spend outside with your crochet. I have to say, today has been dry with sunny spells(55 degrees)and a little bit warmer than of late(hooray). No wonder they say the British are obsessed with the weather, it's because the weather is so cruel to us sometimes! Good Luck with the granny squares. X

  2. Hi Daisy! Love that pile of wool you have there.. It looks delicious, and is sure to make a beautiful blanket. Also wanted to say thanks for all the comments you have left on my blog. I can't e-mail you back since your site is set up as a "no-reply" blogger. I don't know maybe you want it that way? But as a new blogger I had mine like that too,(I didn't know) and then edited my profile so it would show my e-mail. After that...BAM, lots of e-mails and feedback on my comments.
If you want to change it go to Google and just put in "no-reply blogger" and it will tell you how to fix it. If you want to keep your e-mail private, then leave as is and I will just come here to say hello : )
Looking forward to more bloggy posts and chatting from you!

There are so many talented people out there and it's really interesting to see what everybody is doing, and I love receiving the feed updates on dashboard. I Look forward to chatting with you too, you have some lovely work on your blog and I would love to find out more!

    1. Thanks Laura, I hope the plants survive too (just thinking of poor DH and all that work he has put into them), but we have had a little bit of sunshine today so maybe... there is hope (lol). The crochet thing is so addictive isn't it - good job it's a harmless pastime!

      Have fun!

  4. I've been bitten by the crochet bug recently and am busy rippling away. It's very addictive, but it is a good way of using up some of my stash!!

    1. Hi Josiekitten, As I said above, good job it's a harmless pastime. What I like about crochet is that it's so fast, compared to all the other crafts I do. I notice you say rippling away, I need to have another go at ripples as mine didn't quite turn out right. I'm hoping to conquer them for my next crochet blanket. Thank you for visiting my blog and leaving a comment.

  5. I do sympathise re the planting out problem - it's just so cold despite being half way through May. I do hope all those lovely flowers make it - they will bring such a lot of brightness to wherever you put them even if there's not much sunshine. I love your blanket beginnings - and yes, I've been there with having to buy repeated quotas of extra yarn on one of these big projects - crochet is quite hungry! Much hungrier than I thought when I began! But the finished blanket will be absolutely beautiful - Matt's is stunning isn't it? Happy Blanket-Beginnings! E x
PS Thank you for your comment on my blog about the yoghurt - just going to put a reply there for you and anyone else wondering about the same thing.

    1. Thank you so much for your kind words E. I will be very happy if my blanket turns out half as nice as Matt's. Thank you also for providing the information for the yogurt. I will try making some of my own and I will let you know how I get on.

    1. Hi Myrtle

The sun is shining now..... need I say anymore? The ladies in Baa Ram Ewe are so friendly and helpful, I wish the shop was nearer to where I live (good job it's not though, I just know I wouldn't be able to resist popping in for too many purchases!).

  7. Can a girl ever have too much wool? And isn't aiming for SABLE (Stash Acquisition Beyond Life Expectancy) the healthy norm of the knitter/crocheter?

That's going to be a lovely blanket :D

    1. Hi Annie

Love your acronym. You are absolutely right - they may have to give me an Egyptian burial one day, one where I go with all my possessions, a bit like a tasteful landfill!!! I love the photo's on your blog.

  8. Wow Daisy! Your green house endeavours look luscious too! Best of luck with the planting. We have tortoises roaming around our garden again, but I think the cold weather has really confused them. I'm sure if we didn't scoop them off the lawn each evening and place them in their warm hutch, we would find them trying to hibernate already. A bit like the rest of us really. Thanks for such a welcoming blog!!

    1. Hi Mainey

Yes I am feeling very dazed too as the sun is actually shining now, I was nearly getting ready to hibernate myself! I bet your poor tortoises don't know what season it is. The flowers are welcoming the sun indeed and I have seen lots of bees today. Long may it last!
